One of the Tribe

Met someone from my tribe today; John was from Wales.  "I have two weeks to bugger around," he said.
John
Both of us commiserated about the hills and the heat.  "At least you have a tailwind," I said.  "I don't have a tailwind," John quickly countered.  Then he said like a pirate, "Arrrrgh! The blood crosswind must have her hooks in both of us!"

John had a unique bicycling fashion style which was not at all similar to my fluorescent, wick-away spandex.  He gravitated toward the more casual plaid shirt with easy access ventilation up front.  While his attire did not appear to breath too well, I tried not to look too closely.

With the sun beating down on both of us and softening a patch of tar at my feet, John said he was having a good time, and he was off.

Honoring veterans

Had the privilege to drive a local WWII veteran, Carl Kircher, in the West Bend Memorial Day Parade. Kircher enlisted in the Navy in 1946 when he was 19 years old. He went to San Diego for training and then served for two years at the Naval Station Great Lakes in Illinois.

Less than a month before the tour leaves.  Behind the scenes:

- I've topped 8,000 push ups. Only 2,000 left to go!
- The only credit card with zero transaction fee and no annual fee outside the U.S. is the Capital One card. Sign me up!
- I've successfully secured eight sponsors for radio updates on AM-1470 WBKV in West Bend. I'll be calling in live updates on Monday's and Friday's.  Sponsors include: Goeden's Auto Body, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Washington County, Common Sense Citizens, Shorewest Realty - Paula Becker agent, Wisconsin Lift Truck, Salberg Law Office, Swede's St. Kilian Inn, and Shop My Closet.
 - Next Monday afternoon I will be on Ted Ehlen's afternoon show on WRJN in Racine talking about the upcoming Amazing Ride for Alzheimer's.
 - Word is the new jerseys have arrived at Husar's House of Fine Diamonds. Set to pick up on Friday - stay tuned!

What a following....

I was with my dad at the Holy Angels rummage sale over the weekend. We looked through tools and old record albums. Came across this little cycle and decided to get it for my 2-year-old nephew. I was standing in line, carrying the trike and searching for a couple dollars when someone behind me said, "Hey..."  I turned around and the guy said, "I don't think you're going to make it back from Nova Scotia on THAT."

Funny......

New tour sponsor

Many thanks to the Kettle Moraine Detachment 1203 Marine Corps League for a wonderful donation and sponsorship of this year's Amazing Ride for Alzheimer's Tour.

To date the 2014 tour has collected $26,000 for Alzheimer's activities and entertainment at Cedar Community. Sincere thanks to the veterans at the Kettle Moraine Detachment 1203 for their support and others who have backed the tour.

Today marks 100 days and counting until I leave for Nova Scotia to pedal back to Wisconsin. I have 3,800 military push ups under my belt as I work my way towards a promised 10,000 before I leave.
